Vacation Time!

It's time again for my week of cabin-time, so the blog will be quiet as I'll be occupied with lake floating, reading, and lots of cabin talk. Back to regularly scheduled sewing next week!

Inside Out Top Finish

I finished the top for "Inside Out"...and my mother pointed out to me that it's called Inside Out because sometimes the dark borders are on the outside and sometimes they're on the inside. Drrr. This is the problem with not having a large design wall anymore - I don't get any distance perspective with my projects, so I miss important things like correlation between titles and border placement. Thanks Mother!

I like the back of this quilt...all those seams!
I also realized that my quilt tops are really piling up - in the last 6 weeks alone, I've finished 6 of them, which brings my grand total to 18! That's getting a little out of hand, which means it's time for a big free-motion quilting extravaganza so I can get some of these complete. So here it is:

NO NEW PROJECTS UNTIL I COMPLETE 6 QUILTS. I have two of them basted and ready, so I'm going to get my machine set up for free motion quilting and go to town.

Inside Out

"Inside Out" is the name of the quilt I've been working on - I'm not sure why, but that's what the kit says, so I'm going with it. Now that I'm done house/cat/dog sitting, I've been enjoying being back in the sewing room again. I finished making all the blocks and have been working on sewing them together.

I'm loving the bright saturated colors and the ease of sewing these together without a lot of seam matching going on. Once these are together, the next step is attaching three borders, and then this baby is done.

I did a ton of cross-stitching while I was away without my sewing machine, and lookit what I finished! I don't even like butterflies all that much, but this was fun to make with all the different sizes and kinds. Here's the thing about my cross-stitch projects: I never actually DO anything with them! I have a whole drawer-full of completed cross-stitch. If anybody has any ideas on what to do with these - or wants one for that matter, let me know!

Update

Well, between taking a week of vacation over the 4th of July, and now house/dog/cat sitting for a friend for 10 days, my sewing time has been really minimal. I hemmed a pair of pants for a friend...that's been pretty much it in the last 7 days, and that's not very blog-worthy.

I did start a quilt from a kit I bought awhile back. This kit was originally sold through Craftsy, but then landed at wholesaler SR Harris for a bargain price. Part of the bargain price was that it didn't come with a pattern! I've just been making it up as I go along based on the included picture-  thank goodness there was a picture!

It's basically a quartered log cabin block, and I knew I could do those pretty easily...so far so good. There are two blocks - one made of the warm colors, and one with the cool colors. I've finished the warm colored blocks, and have started the cool ones, but I won't be able to finish these until sometime next week one the house-sitting gig is over.

In the meantime, I'm having fun with this sweet girl, going on plenty of walks and having lots of snuggles until her real parents get back.
