Israel: Day 1 & 2

We spent most of Saturday and Sunday in a fog of airplane travel. There was a flight to Chicago and then lots of waiting. And then over a 9 hour flight into Istanbul, followed by a confusing whirlwind of tarmac landings and bus rides, culminating in the final flight to Tel Aviv. By the time we cleared customs, collected our baggage, met our guide, and made sure our group were all present and accounted for, all I could think of was a shower and sleep!

Our hotel was in a subarb of Tel Aviv called Netanya and was right on the beach. Despite my exhaustion, mother talked me into walking down for a late night beach walk. It was hot and muggy, but we dipped our toes in the water, and it felt good.

Funny story - our hotel room was on the top floor, and people were teasing us about maybe getting the penthouse. Turns out, we actually DID get the penthouse suite. It probably wasn't the most luxious suite in the world, but all I wanted was a shower, and the room had two bathrooms and a bedroom for each of us, so we were happy campers. A fun bonus was that when we got back from our walk on the beach, plates of food were waiting for us - delicious bread and meat and fruit and salad.

So after our midnight snack and a shower, I fell into bed and slept like a rock until our 6 a.m. wake-up call.
